Recently, the 48th Geneva International Invention Exhibition in 2023 closed in Geneva, Switzerland. The scientific research project of the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering of Beijing Jiaotong University won the highest level award of this invention exhibition - the "Gold Award of Special Recognition by the Jury", achieving a historic breakthrough.

Founded in 1973 and co organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization and the Swiss Federal Government, Geneva International Invention Exhibition is one of the oldest and largest invention exhibitions in the world. Its award atmosphere jury especially praises the gold, gold, silver and bronze awards. The Invention Exhibition attracted nearly 1000 new inventions from over 40 countries and regions, and the 165 invention projects exhibited by the Chinese delegation attracted much attention.

The scientific research project "the first lithium driven rail abrasive belt grinding equipment in the world" completed by the Advanced Grinding and Precision Machining Research Institute of the Mechanical and Electrical College of Beijing Jiaotong University, aimed at the complex special needs of rail maintenance of high-speed, ordinary speed, heavy load, plateau cold railway, subway, tram and other wheel rail rail transit systems, for the first time, the new technology of efficient green grinding of rail abrasive belt with fully independent intellectual property rights was proposed, Breaking the monopoly situation abroad.

Compared with the traditional internal combustion grinding wheel grinding equipment, the developed equipment can significantly improve the grinding efficiency by more than 3-5 times. At the same time, it has many advantages such as good grinding quality, low vibration, low noise, low energy consumption, adaptation to plateau hypoxia conditions above 4000 meters above sea level, and has been widely used in railway and urban rail transit systems, producing significant economic and social benefits.
